THE LOSANGE BRAND UNVEILS THE SECOND 100% ELECTRIC STANDARD MODEL IN ITS HISTORY, THIS AFTER THE ZOÉ IF WE ABSTRACT THE TWIZY QUADRICYCLE. TODAY, THE NEW RENAULT MÉGANE E-TECH ELECTRIC IS POSITIONED AS THE FLAGSHIP OFFER OF THE FRENCH MANUFACTURER IN THE FIELD OF CLEAN MOBILITY.
While a majority of manufacturers have chosen to develop SUVs as the first electric car in their catalog, Renault has opted for a “battery-powered” sedan with the Mégane E-Tech Electric, but the latter clearly follows the trend of so-called “high perched” vehicles by taking up some of their visual codes with, mainly, a substantial ride height.
In terms of style, the new Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric, unsurprisingly, resumes the silhouette of the Mégane eVision concept car presented in October 2020 as part of the “Renault eWays” event.
This 100% electric raised sedan is 4.21 m in length, 1.78 m in width and 1.50 m in height. The Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric is therefore approximately 14 cm shorter compared to the current Mégane sedan. It should be noted that as standard, the 100% electric Mégane will be delivered with 18-inch rims, 20-inch rims being available as an option.
The interior of the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric marks a certain revolution for the diamond brand with the presence of several screens that create a very high-tech atmosphere: central 9 ″ touch screen (standard) for infotainment and 12 ″ optional (in photos in this article). Note that the largest of the screens includes the OpenR Link operating system developed in partnership with Google, knowing that it is based on the so-called “open source” Android Automotive device. As for the digital instrumentation, it is 12.3 ″ in size, both screens being, of course, very high resolution.
Driving aids are logically the latest generation on the electric Mégane with, among other things, the presence of adaptive cruise control and 100% automatic parking.
The habitability of the new Mégane E-Tech Electric seems to be very interesting given that its loading volume is 440 l. Access to the trunk is clearly one of the strengths of this SUV-style sedan. Plenty of storage space completes the practicality of this Mégane E-Tech Electric.
Let us come to the engines of the electric Renault Mégane. The entry-level version has a 96 kW / 130 hp electric motor and the second, more powerful, displays 160 kW / 218 hp knowing that each time, the electromotor is mounted on the front axle. .
Renault also offers the choice of two battery capacities for the two configurations of its Mégane E-Tech Electric: 40 kWh (300 km of WLTP range) and 60 kWh (450 km of WLTP range). In terms of recharging, it is possible up to a maximum power of 130 kW (300 km recovered in about 30 minutes in this case).
Finally, Renault has not communicated the prices of the Mégane E-Tech Electric which can be ordered from the beginning of next year in three finishes to choose from: “Equilibre”, “Techno” and “Iconic”.
