OVER THE RHINE IN MUNICH, THE IAA 2021 IS THE OPPORTUNITY FOR MERCEDES-AMG TO UNVEIL THE EQS 53 4MATIC +, THE FIRST AMG-BADGED ELECTRIC CAR. THIS POWER VARIATION OF 484 KW / 658 HP OR 560 KW / 761 HP JOINS THE EQS 580 4MATIC + (385 KW / 523 HP) AND EQS 450+ (245 KW / 333 HP).
The star manufacturer is the most active of those at the Munich show. Among the many electric novelties presented by Mercedes, we find in particular the EQE, a small EQS of 215 kW / 292 hp in its 450+ configuration. This time the AMG department has developed a much more powerful clean automobile with the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic +, in an attempt to attract the most ardent customers of the German tuner Affalterbach.
The design of the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic + reveals elements specific to its sporting status. Up front, the solid grille of the one with the three-letter "AMG logo" shows vertical slats. The front blade is also a bit larger than on the other EQS.
In profile, a black treatment for the contours of the glass surfaces also marks the difference with other EQS. As for the rims of this EQS 53 4MATIC +, they are 21 or 22 inches in size knowing that they were developed by AMG to optimize the treatment of air flows.
At the rear, room for a more imposing and sporty diffuser which is accompanied by a small spoiler which is nevertheless larger in size compared to that of the other EQS, the rear bumper also being more open vertically at its ends.
The interior of the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC + incorporates AMG sports seats in Artico artificial leather and also made of Microcut microfibers. Note that Nappa-type leather upholstery is on the options program. It adds even more AMG styling with graphics. Other carbon fiber inserts can complete the set. In addition, red stitching adds a very high-tech atmosphere thanks to the MBUX Hyperscreen, which has displays specific to this AMG version of the EQS.
Another specificity of this Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic +, its artificial sound system offered in “Authentic” or “Performance”, in an attempt to make people forget the fantastic noise of the V8 4.0 l biturbo AMG.
On the technical side, the engineers at AMG worked on the angle of the rear steering wheels, which reached 9 °, as well as on all the other parameters of the car to make it even more efficient on the track or on the road. AMG's “Ride Control + adaptive damping has therefore undergone significant improvements to provide more support and dynamism.
Two mounted motors, one and the other on the front and rear axles, offer 4Matic + all-wheel drive. As standard, the EQS 53 4Matic + develops 484 kW / 658 hp and a torque of 950 Nm. Once the option “AMG Dynamic Plus package” has been checked, 560 kW / 761 hp is reached, this in “Race Start mode with the boost function. The maximum torque then increases to 1020 Nm. It only takes 3.4 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km / h, the maximum speed of the EQS 53 4Matic + being 250 km / h with the “AMG D.P. Plus (220 km/h without).
Note that the braking system has been revised with the addition of 6 pistons and 415 × 33 mm discs (at the front) and single-piston brake calipers and 378 × 22 mm discs for the rear. . As an option, the front axle can be fitted with AMG high-performance ceramic brakes (440 × 40 mm). You have to be able to brake the machine, which weighs more than 2,600 kilos!
Note that three driving modes are available to choose from: “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport +”. These also logically play on the autonomy of the 400 V technology battery, which has a capacity of 107.8 kWh (maximum range: 580 km in WLTP).
Finally, the price of the new Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic + has not been communicated. This AMG “shooting star” will be launched on the automotive market in a few months.
